  19. :)     It will depend on the film recorder you use. The lowest rez the one I
  20. :) use takes is 2k (2048). In the past I've rendered at 2k with 1:1 aspect (square
  21. :) pixels) in LW and used the limited region to get the exact rez out of Print. 
  22. :) I'm going to try rendering at 1k next and splining up. Myself, I wouldn't go
  23. :) lower than that, but I'm picky. I've heard of solutions using Med rez and 
  24. :) writing an Exabyte to have The Post Group transfer. For 16mm, you can probably
  25. :) get away with Medium. Have fun!

  28. 2K would be the optimal rez for 35mm output.  That's what you see at the 
  29. movies most all of the time...T2, JP, etc.  For 16mm you'd be talking more
  30. like 1K...any higher than that and you're prob'ly rendering smaller than
  31. the grain.

  33. If rendering at 1K still poses a time/compute liability, you can try this:
  34. Render at D1 (720x486) or some other video resolution and then rez it
  35. up to 1K and apply a sharpening kernal to the images (you can easily do
  36. both in ADPro using the SCALE and CONVOLVE operators).  This is what we
  37. did for TEMPS (temporary shots that can be cut into a film during its early
  38. stages) on TRUE LIES.  Our screening room is the size of your average
  39. theatre, and even projected this big the imagery held up quite nicely.
  40. It looks a bit soft (especially when you see it between Super35 and Vista
  41. shots) but for 16mm applications I'm sure you'll get good results.
